The building where the municipal archive is presently established was once a residence house, constructed in the first half of century XIX, visible in the first picture of Ponte de Lima, which is given the date of 1858.
The registration in the Conservatory is dated from 1898, with the no. 33950, in book B93, where it is described as: “Address of houses with shops, 1st floor, attic and yard.” Its owner was João Gomes de Abreu Lima, and was then sold to the Municipality of Ponte de Lima by Luís Soares Correia, in 1998, one hundred years after its first registration.
The space underwent adaptation works and in 2002 was open to the public with all the conditions to receive one of the most emblematic historical archives in the country.
